The Dojo, a local skateboarder-led skatepark in Tokyo.

Leading into the 2020 Olympics, it was illegal to skate in the streets of Tokyo, The Dojo was the only free indoor concrete park in Tokyo. Our goal was to empower the local scene by giving them a space to create.

The park was built with inclusivity in mind, allowing skateboarders of all skill levels to have a place to skate. There is nothing for sale at the Dojo, rather than a traditional shop, the lounge offers all the culture of a skate shop, minus the shopping.

2019: Creative Direction

Every detail of the Dojo was inspired by insights from the Japanese skate scene. The design of the park referenced skate spots long forgotten from the Tokyo area. The material and color stories referenced the utility of the city. The word mark itself was inspired by the traditional Japanese Hanko stamp.
